Harry Reid On Bob Menendez: 'I Have Confidence He Did Nothing Wrong' (VIDEO)

WASHINGTON -- Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said on Sunday that he stands behind Sen. Bob Menendez (D-N.J.), who is facing allegations that he violated ethics rules involving travel with a political donor.

"I have confidence he did nothing wrong," Reid said on ABC News' "This Week." "But that's what investigations are all about."

Menendez's office said last week that he had reimbursed a donor, who is now under investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, for the $58,500 cost of trips the senator took to the Dominican Republic in 2010. He had previously not disclosed those trips. Menendez has also been accused of engaging in sex with prostitutes while on those trips. He denies that allegation and the charge that he violated ethics rules.

Menendez is now under a preliminary investigation by the Senate Ethics Committee.

Reid said that he thinks the New Jersey senator will do a "wonderful job" in his new post as chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and that he will continue to serve there as the inquiries move forward.

"I have the utmost confidence in him," Reid said. "As to the rest of the investigation, that'll have to be handled the way they're all handled around here, in depth, and the Ethics Committee are in the paper today. They're taking a look at it. So that'll have to work out itself."
