Emogene Powell, USPS Mail Carrier, Mauled By Dogs In Miami Gardens (VIDEO)

WATCH: Mail Carrier Survives Vicious Attack

A postal worker is recovering Wednesday after a vicious mauling in Miami Gardens.

55-year-old mail carrier Emogene Powell was delivering mail into a home on the 1400 block of NW 191st Street when two American bulldogs next door apparently jumped an adjoining fence and attacked her.

"The dog tried to eat her alive," bystander Wilman Hilaire told Local 10. "[She was] screaming, 'Help me, I'm dying.'"

Witnesses said the mauling continued until two good Samaritans came to her rescue. CBS Miami reports Powell, known as the singing postal lady to neighborhood residents, is a year from retirement.

"There were some deep puncture wounds," said Miami Gardens Police Cpt. Ralph Suarez of Powell's injuries, which include bites to her face, arms, and a leg.

The owner of the dogs expressed concern over the incident, but said her dogs are legally owned and vaccinated.

"She has my deepest sympathy. I mean, I never got bit by a dog, I don't feel her pain, but she has my deepest sympathy."

WSVN reports Powell was transported to Memorial Regional Hospital in stable condition. The owner of the dogs could face a fine from Miami-Dade Animal Control.

Update, 4:00 p.m. -- The dogs who attacked Emogene Powell are slated to be euthanized Wednesday afternoon, according to Rosh Lowe of WSVN.
