Stephen Colbert's Sister, Elizabeth Colbert-Busch, Is Running For Congress (VIDEO)

CONGRESS BOUND?

Something in the Colbert DNA must encourage members of that family to seek public office. Stephen ran for president twice, and fanned the flames of an upswell of support for the governor to appoint him to replace exiting senator Jim DeMint. But now, another Colbert is actually seeking a seat in congress, without Comedy Central supporting her.

Stephen's sister, Elizabeth Colbert-Busch (or Lulu as Stephen calls her), is running as a Democrat in her home state of South Carolina. As if running from that political party were not enough reason for Stephen to withhold his celebrity endorsement power, he insists that as a hardened newsman he would never stoop to such favoritism.

"As a broadcast journalist, I am obligated to maintain pure objectivity," Colbert said on his show Wednesday night. "It doesn’t matter that my sister is intelligent, hardworking, compassionate and dedicated to the people of South Carolina."

Check out the clip above from last night's "Colbert Report" to see Stephen talk about his sister's run.
