Matt Damon On 'Toilet Strike' Until World Water Crisis Is Solved (VIDEO)

Posted: Updated:

Matt Damon will not use a bathroom –- at least not until the world water crisis is solved.

The Oscar-winning actor and activist has moved beyond stiff PSAs in order to raise awareness for the millions of people who lack clean water and basic sanitation. In a video released Tuesday, which takes place at a mock press conference, the co-founder of Water.org mixes key alarming facts with a bit of deadpan humor.

“In protest of this global tragedy -- until this issue is resolved, until everybody has access to clean water and sanitation -- I will not go to the bathroom,” Damon says in the awareness video.

But before he makes his out-there declaration, the Bourne Identity star tells a roomful of seemingly dumbfounded journalists about World Toilet Day, the November event that raises awareness for the more than 2.5 billion people who don’t have access to toilets. It’s an issue that causes water pollution, disease and death, according to Water.org, the nonprofit Damon co-founded, which provides clean water and sanitation in communities in Africa, South Asia, and Central America.

While we're not convinced that Damon will actually avoid going to the loo altogether, the staunch advocate is set on making his videos go viral, encouraging supporters to join his “Strike with Me” campaign leading up to World Water Day in March and, of course, generating a few laughs.

"The concept of experimenting with comedy to generate new levels of awareness and participation in the cause is something we've been toying with for a couple of years," Damon told the Los Angeles Times. "If Sarah Silverman and I can generate millions of views on YouTube for something ridiculous, then we should be able to do better for one of the most important and solvable issues of our time."

(Full disclosure: We're still LOL-ing about Damon saying in the video below that “reporters are d*cks.”)
