Chicago Music February 2013: The Hidden Gems And Must-See Shows (Mid-Month Edition)

Top Live Shows Of The Week

Mid-way through February, Chicago music is having a pretty good week.

Just one day prior, Chicago's string quartet-meets-rock-band ensemble Eighth Blackbird's "Meanwhile" nabbed a Grammy for Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble Performance; The Chicago Symphony Orchestra wasn't nominated this year, bu will just have to be satisfied with their 62 total Grammys from years past.

In a quick carry-over from last week, local favorite (or general "favorite") JC Brooks & The Uptown Sound got some major love on the Fox comedy "New Girl" in the form of a highly-visible bedroom concert poster.

A single spot of bad news came in Tuesday evening, however, when Lady Gaga announced she was canceling this week's Chicago shows due to a nasty case of synovitis:

To the fans in Chicago Detroit & Hamilton I hope you can forgive me, as it is nearly impossible for me to forgive myself. Im devasted & sad

Hamilton, Ontario and Detroit didn't fare much better, either:

Due to a case of synovitis, (severe inflammation of joints) Gaga’s doctor has ordered her to postpone show in Chicago, Detroit + Hamilton

Gaga's pre-Valentine's and Valentine's Day shows at The United Center have been postponed until a later date (so don't ditch those tickets just yet), but be not heartbroken: HuffPost Chicago returns with another round of live music picks for mid-month—including some choice V-Day shows sure to warm your heart (or at least fill your ear).

Chicago's Top Concerts Of The Week: Feb. 12-17

Sold-out shows that are worth chasing down on Craigslist: The Residents (2/15, Schubas)

Note: All performances listed have tickets available as of Tuesday.
