Mardi Gras Marriage Proposal: Man Proposes Using Mardi Gras Float (VIDEO)

WATCH: An Amazing Surprise During Mardi Gras Parade

One lucky lady got more than beads during Mardi Gras -- she got a marriage proposal, too.

Joel Edwards posted a video Saturday of his proposal to his girlfriend, Megan Keegan, during a Mardi Gras parade in New Orleans. As you can see in the video above, the two were watching the parade when a "Frog Fest" float passed by, displaying a sign that said, "Megan Will You Marry Me? Joel." Edwards then got down on one knee and offered Megan a ring, which she accepted.

Edwards told HuffPost Weddings that he was inspired to pop the question during Mardi Gras because, although he and Keegan currently live in Texas, they both grew up in Louisiana and met eight years ago while they were students at Louisiana State University.

"Megan had mentioned before that the best proposal would be one that happened some place meaningful that we would always want to come back to. Since we're both from Louisiana, love New Orleans, and never miss a Mardi Gras, I figured it would be the perfect place for it to happen," he said.

Edwards realized that the float his coworker, Laura Perez, rides on every year would pass right by the spot where he, Keegan, and many of their friends and family would watch the parade. Perez made the sign and dropped it down as her float passed in front of them.

While Edwards nervously awaited the float, he said Keegan was so set on gathering beads that she didn't see the sign until he pointed it out to her.

"Up until I saw the sign drop down I had no idea if it all was actually going to work out or not. You can see me in the video get really excited when I finally see Laura hang the sign in the front of [the] float. After that, everything was just a big blur of excitement," Edwards said. "After Megan finally read the sign she was in total shock. It's kind of difficult to surprise Megan so it was really fun to watch her caught in the moment."

Edwards and Keegan weren't the only couple to get engaged at this year's Mardi Gras. A member of the Mystics of Time parade organization also popped the question during the Mardi Gras celebrations.
