The assistant principal who was fired from an Ohio Catholic school after he penned a personal blog in support of same-sex marriage is speaking out about the experience.

Mike Moroski tells ABC News he was inspired by President Barack Obama's historic embrace of gay rights during his 2012 inaugural address to pen the blog, which got him dismissed from Purcell Marian High School after he declined the option of recanting comments made in the piece.

The 34-year-old Moroski, who is married, says he felt "disappointed," but was not surprised by the school's decision to fire him Feb. 11.

"I feel like if your love for somebody makes you a better person...then you should be allowed to [express] that," he told the network. "You certainly, I feel, should be allowed to say you support that."

In the original blog post, dated Jan. 27, Moroski wrote:

“I unabashedly believe that gay people SHOULD be allowed to marry. Ethically, morally and legally I believe this. I spend a lot of my life trying to live as a Christian example of love for others, and my formation at Catholic grade school, high school, 3 Catholic Universities and employment at 2 Catholic high schools has informed my conscience to believe that gay marriage is NOT something of which to be afraid.”
