Rush Limbaugh Suggests Background Checks For Media To Detect For 'Mental Illness' (AUDIO)

LISTEN: Rush Limbaugh's Ridiculous Rant

Rush Limbaugh suggested that journalists, who he referred to as "dangerous," undergo background checks and a formal registration process similar to the way potential gun owners acquire firearms.

Speaking on his Tuesday radio show, Limbaugh responded to a Politico article titled "Obama, the puppet master." He raged against the political press for being what he referred to as President Obama's "eager puppets." He said the Politico piece was "bordering on delusion" and said that it might be worth considering a background check for journalists to detect for "mental illness."

He said, "I think we ought to do to the first amendment practitioners what they want to do to the second amendment practitioners. We ought to do background checks on these people to see which of them are mentally ill and if they are, deny them access to the public airwaves and the newspapers as so-called news reporters or journalists because they’re dangerous. They are dangerous to the republic."

He added, "I don't know folks, I'm just talking out loud. These are just a great example of the constant and never-ending explosions taking place in my fertile brain."

The conservative radio host also accused the White House press corps of conspiring with the president to ensure positive news coverage. "We just don't see any curiosity," Limbaugh charged. "We see you wanting to do everything from keeping this man from being embarrassed, or proven wrong or worse. But we think that you guys are the cover up. You guys are Deep Throat. You guys have become what you so often have criticized. This is willing accomplice-type stuff."
