Heavy snow blanketed Southeast Michigan Friday morning, snarling traffic in some places and causing a number of area schools to close. An accident involving a semi truck kept I-75 southbound on Clark Street. in Detroit closed until noon, according to WDIV.

The snowfall is part of a major winter storm passing through the Midwest that has closed airports in Missouri and covered areas of Kansas in knee-deep snow.

The total daytime accumulation in the Detroit area could reach one or two inches, according to the National Weather Service.

Further snow showers, freezing drizzle are predicted for pockets of Metro Detroit throughout the day and into the evening. A chance of flurries is predicted for Saturday.
