President Barack Obama's recent proposal to raise the federal minimum wage has been met with opposition from top Republican lawmakers and business leaders.

One common claim is that raising the minimum wage would throw people out of work. But numerous studies have found that raising the minimum wage does not reduce employment. In fact, there are a number of positive things that can be said about raising the minimum wage.
