Best Actor Winner: Daniel Day-Lewis Takes Home Oscar At 85th Annual Academy Awards

Your Best Actor

Daniel Day-Lewis is the Best Actor winner at the 85th annual Academy Awards.

Day-Lewis took home the Oscar for playing Abraham Lincoln in the Steven Spielberg film "Lincoln." This is Day-Lewis' record third Best Actor award. He previously won for "My Left Foot" and "There Will Be Blood."

"I really don't know how any of this happened. I do know that I have received more than my share of good fortune," Day-Lewis said while accepting the award.

Day-Lewis being named Best Actor winner was an expected coronation for many awards prognosticators. The "Lincoln" star had previously earned awards at the Golden Globes, Screen Actors Guild awards and BAFTAs. "Lincoln" focuses on the last four months of the 16th president's life and his attempts to pass the 13th Amendment to abolish slavery.

Best Actor was a strong category at the Oscars: Day-Lewis was joined by Bradley Cooper ("Silver Linings Playbook"), Hugh Jackman ("Les Miserables"), Joaquin Phoenix ("The Master") and Denzel Washington ("Flight").

Last year, Jean Dujardin was Best Actor winner for "The Artist."
