Jennifer Lawrence was named Best Actress winner at the 85th annual Academy Awards on Sunday.
Lawrence's Best Actress Oscar win was the first of her career. She earned the award for playing Tiffany, a young widow, in the romantic comedy "Silver Linings Playbook."
Lawrence, who accepted the award from Jean Dujardin, accidentally fell on her way to the stage, but brushed it off like a pro.
The 22-year-old star was an early front-runner for Best Actress, winning trophies from at the Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild awards. In recent weeks, however, some Oscar experts had shifted their gaze toward "Amour" star Emmanuelle Riva. The 86-year-old actress, who celebrated her birthday on Oscar night, won at the BAFTA awards in England earlier this month.
Lawrence and Riva were joined in the category by Jessica Chastain ("Zero Dark Thirty"), Quvenzhane Wallis ("Beasts of the Southern Wild") and Naomi Watts ("The Impossible"). In an interesting bit of Oscar history, Riva is the category's oldest nominee, while Wallis, age 9, was its youngest.
Last year, Meryl Streep was Best Actress winner for "The Iron Lady."
