State District For Struggling Schools Says Detroit Students Improving

Detroit — More than a quarter of students at the state's recovery district for failing schools made academic gains equal to one year or more in just four months, officials with the Education Achievement Authority said Friday.

John Covington, EAA chancellor, announced early results from assessments given to students in late January and early February showed 27 percent of EAA students in grades 2-9 achieved a year's growth or more in reading and 22 percent with the same growth range in math.
