Police Charge Bucktown Rape Suspect After Tracing Stolen Phone

Updated story

A 16-year-old boy who is a ward of the state was charged Monday after he was accused of breaking into a Chicago woman's Bucktown home in broad daylight Sunday afternoon, raping her at gunpoint and then kidnapping her following the assault.

His additional act of petty robbery, however, is what led police straight to him.

According to CBS Chicago, Cervantes — who reportedly hopped the security fence to break in to the home — stole his victim's cell phone, forced her into her own car and drove off. He let her go just blocks away from her residence near Western and Hirsch.

Cervantes was taken into police custody Sunday, and charged early Monday , Fox Chicago reports.

Judge Adam Bourgeois Jr. denied bond for the teen during Monday's bond hearing saying, “There is no condition (of bail) that I can set to protect anybody from you."

Cervantes was reportedly led from the court room crying following the hearing.
