Jeff Zucker Meeting With NABJ About Black Journalists At CNN

CNN chief Jeff Zucker is set to address his network's commitment to African American journalists, FishbowlDC reported Monday.

The site said that Zucker was scheduled to meet with representatives of the National Association of Black Journalists on Monday.

The meeting comes days after Soledad O'Brien, perhaps CNN's most visible journalist of color, lost her anchor slot on the network. In future, she will be seen far less frequently, though she will continue to produce her "In America" documentaries, most of which deal with race. Her departure from a day-to-day role leaves Don Lemon, Suzanne Malveaux and Fredricka Whitfield as the most high-profile black anchors on CNN.

The network has been criticized for its diversity in the past. In 2011, the NAACP said it was "deeply concerned" that there were no black anchors in CNN's primetime lineup. That situation has not changed, and all of Zucker's major hires since his arrival at CNN have been white.

This is not to say that other cable news networks are much better. MSNBC, which has made a concerted effort to attract African American audiences, has four black anchors in its weekly lineup. Fox News has one.
