It looks like Gotham's reckoning is traffic on the Garden State Parkway. (Bows.) As unearthed by BuzzFeed, the location of Batman's hometown, Gotham City, is New Jersey.

The news comes from the 1990 book "The Atlas of the DC Universe," so it's not technically new. As BuzzFeed notes, "Wikipedia confirms it, as does the DC Comics wiki."

Gotham City has always been associated with the East Coast. New York Times columnist Willam Safire wrote in 1990 that Gotham was actually just New York:

"Gotham City," as all Batman fans know, is New York -- particularly New York below 14th Street, from SoHo to Greenwich Village, the Bowery, Little Italy, Chinatown and the sinister areas around the base of the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges.

On film, at least recently, Gotham City has been harder to pin down. Christopher Nolan shot much of "The Dark Knight" in Chicago, but used Chicago, New York and Pittsburgh to create the metropolis in "The Dark Knight Rises." (A detailed map of Nolan's Gotham City can be found here.)
