Elizabeth Colbert Busch Releases First Ad Highlighting Business Background (VIDEO)

Elizabeth Colbert Busch Hits The Airwaves

South Carolina Democrat Elizabeth Colbert Busch released her first ad on Thursday, a 30-second spot that highlights the congressional candidate's business experience.

Currently on leave from her position as business and sales director for two Clemson University programs, Colbert Busch concludes by putting her background in maritime trade front and center.

“I’ve spent 20 years using our ports to create jobs selling American products made by American workers,” Colbert Busch says. “I’m not going to talk about the jobs that we lost. I know what it takes to create new jobs.”

Colbert Busch, older sister of comedian Stephen Colbert, is seeking the First District seat formerly held by Rep. Tim Scott (R-S.C.), who was appointed to the Senate earlier this year. With her famous brother's fundraising aid and her close involvement with the economic concerns of the district, political observers believe she'll turn out to be a strong candidate in the historically red district.

She's running against a packed Republican primary field that has swollen to 16 candidates. Former South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford (R) -- who finished out his term in 2010 amid a high-profile sex scandal -- is among the hopefuls, and is expected to be her most formidable opponent.

Sanford went on the air last month with a 30-second ad seeking forgiveness and talking up his work to reduce government spending and debt.
