Chris Brown insists that his crude ramblings about how to treat a woman were not about Rihanna.
While partying at Emerson Theatre in Hollywood on March 7, Brown went off on a rant many presumed was about Rihanna. He grabbed the DJ's mike and told the guys in the audience how to handle their women. "You gotta say that one thing to her, and I made this s**t up," he said. "'Don't make me have to tell you again, that that's my p****y baby! It is mine, baby, babe, mine. So you better not give it away!'" He added that they should make sure their "b***hes" know who's boss.
But the 23-year-old singer claims Rihanna had nothing to do with it.
Outside Lure nightclub in Los Angeles over the weekend, TMZ caught up with Brown to ask about the rant. "It's a song ... it's a song ... that's all it is," he said, laughing, before getting into an SUV.
“When Chris is on stage, he’s just going with the flow — he isn’t trying to disrespect Rihanna -- that's his girl,” a source told Hollywood Life. “Rappers say way harder s**t than what he said, but because it's Chris, everybody cares."
However, Refinery29's Lexi Nisita explains that Brown's comments weren't just offensive because of his history with domestic abuse, but also because of the context. "This kind of disrespectful, objectifying, and borderline-violent language is not a joke, it's not funny, and we don't need to lighten up," she writes.
Offensive or not, Rihanna is smitten with Brown. Their once on-again, off-again relationship has seemingly stabilized, for which she is "thankful."
“Stay [her new single] is a story about having love that close and wanting it to last forever," the "Diamonds" singer told ELLE U.K. "You don’t have that feeling with everybody so when you have it you don’t want to let go of it. I would definitely say that he [Chris Brown] is the one I have that kind of relationship with." She continued, "Now that we’re adults we can do this right. We got a fresh start and I’m thankful for that."
