John Malkovich Joins NBC Pirate Drama

The two-time Oscar nominee will star as the notorious figure in NBC's action-adventure drama series "Crossbones," Entertainment Weekly reports. Malkovich will start as Blackbeard in the 10-episode series based on Colin Woodard's book "The Republic of Pirates."

Assassin Tom Lowe is sent to take down Blackbeard, but "the closer he gets, the more enthralled with the community he becomes," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Hugh Laurie had previously been offered the role of Blackbeard, but turned town the role of the infamous pirate that now belongs to Malkovich.
