Cindy Crawford: Model Says Parents' Divorce Motivated Her To Seek Financial Independence (VIDEO)

WATCH: What Cindy Crawford Vows Will NEVER Happen To Her

Before she became a supermodel, Cindy Crawford was a young girl growing up in the small town of DeKalb, Illinois. In this clip from the March 10 episode of “Oprah’s Master Class,” Cindy looks back on her childhood and reveals what her parents’ divorce taught her about financial independence.

“Unfortunately, my parents were one of those couples that didn’t make it,” Cindy says in the clip, explaining that after her parents divorced, Cindy’s father would usually give her mother money each week for child support, but would occasionally withhold the funds at his own discretion. “If he was mad at her -- because she’d gone out on a date or done something else -- he wouldn’t give her the money that week,” says Cindy. “That sometimes meant we didn’t get grocery money or gas money.”

Witnessing her mother’s financial dependence on her father led Cindy to vow that she would never end up in the same position. “I saw that and I was like, ‘This will never happen to me,’” Cindy states. “I will never be in that situation where I can’t take care of myself.”

In the clip, Cindy talks about her own financial independence and how it was difficult for her husband, Rande Gerber, to get used to her not needing him financially. She also reveals what she does to make him feel needed in other ways.

Oprah’s Master Class” airs on Sundays at 10 p.m. ET on OWN.
