Ernesto Velazquez, Patron In Wheelchair, Fires Shots At Finnegan's Lincoln Road Over Seating (VIDEO)

Man Opens Fire In Lincoln Road Bar

A man angry over seating opened fire Monday night inside a restaurant and bar on popular Lincoln Road in Miami Beach.

WSVN reports a suspect in a wheelchair fired two shots into the air at Finnegan's Road near Michigan Avenue, with one bullet ending up in a second floor apartment.

"Two arrests were made in this case," said Miami Beach spokesperson Det. Vivian Hernandez. "One of the known shooter and one another person affiliated with the shooting."

The Miami Herald identified the men as Ernesto Velazquez and his brother. Jail records show the 29-year-old Velazquez has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, discharging a firearm in public, felony possession of a weapon, and disorderly conduct.

The incident began when the men became angry over where they were seated, the Herald reports:

According to witnesses, Velazquez and his brother arrived at the bar and asked for a table. A waitress told police that Velazquez became irate after being directed to a table outside.

"You don't want to serve me?" he screamed, according to the waitress. She said he then grabbed a pistol that he had under a shirt he had on the right side of his wheelchair.

The waitress told police that she suggested the outside table because it is lower and would be more comfortable.

The shots send bar staff and other patrons scrambling for safety. Residents were alarmed by the busy open-air mall's sudden turn as a crime scene.

"It was just shocking," Mandy Gerhardt, who was walking home from a dance class with her roommate, told WSVN. "...It's right outside our apartment."
