Tom Ford: 'I Didn't Have A Child Because I Wanted To Hand Him Off To Somebody'

"I didn't have a child because I wanted to hand him off to somebody."

With Kate Middleton, Margherita Missoni and Sarah Burton pregnant (not to mention the recent birth of Frida Giannini's daughter), it seems like babies are the toast of the fashion world. Naturally, Tom Ford, the ultimate tastemaker, has officially set the bar for stylish parenting.

During a sit-down with André Leon Talley for Vogue.com, the designer dished on his and parter Richard Buckley's new baby Alexander John Buckley Ford. "He has a very long, fancy name, but we call him Jack," Tom says. Don't let the fancy name fool you though -- Mr. Ford does all of your typical parenting duties.

"I feed him in the morning, I change his diaper, I dress him, I play with him," he says. "I have a good two or three hours before I go into the office with just me and Jack."

André seems pretty shocked to find out that a man who heads one of the most glam fashion houses in the biz would get down and dirty in the name of fatherhood and asks, "You change diapers? Are they made of broadcloth or something?"

"I didn't have a child because I wanted to hand him off to somebody," Tom responds. "I had a child because I've always wanted a child."

Awww. Of course, Tom hasn't been a schlepp in the style department either -- he just staged a comeback fashion show during London Fashion Week with Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel in attendance. As for the return of his movie career? "My production this year was Jack Ford," he says.

We just hope that the designer finds some time in between diaper duty and work to make a tiny tux for little Jack. That might just be the cutest thing ever.
