Wednesday was a landmark day for the Catholic Church, as it welcomed Pope Francis, the 266th man to hold what is likely the world's most prominent religious office. Two days ago, the Pope was known as Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio, archbishop of Buenos Aires.

Francis is the first pope to hail from the Americas and is also referred to as "the slum pope" due to how much he ministered to those in the poorest and most dangerous neighborhoods in the Argentine capital.

In homage to the new leader of the Catholic Church, we decided to take a look at beautiful Buenos Aires and the places where the Pope's service took place.
