Mitt Romney CPAC: Former Presidential Candidate Likes Joke About Donald Trump

Romney Addresses CPAC Crowd

Donald Trump may have been a speaker at CPAC on Friday, but he was still the butt of jokes.

Guy Benson, political editor of the conservative site TownHall.com, made fun of Trump on Friday afternoon, riffing about his constant birther antics. Benson joked that he wanted to see Trump's "original long-form invitation" to CPAC, refering to Trump's ongoing questions about the veracity of President Barack Obama's birth certificate.

Benson later tweeted that while waiting backstage, Mitt Romney told him that he liked Benson's jokes -- even though Trump was a big supporter of Romney's when he ran for president.

HuffPost's Jon Ward has more on Romney's speech, which included an apology, as well as advice for the Republican Party:

[Romney] walked on stage as his campaign theme song, Kid Rock's "Born Free," blared over the speakers, bringing back memories of the countless times he did that across the country throughout 2011 and 2012. The crowd greeted the former Massachusetts governor with a sustained standing ovation, and the moment seemed to overwhelm the always restrained Romney to some degree.

"You touched my heart again, thank you so very much," he said.
