Bobby Jindal Uninjured After Being Involved In Car Accident

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal (R) suffered no injuries on Sunday, after the SUV in which he was traveling was struck by a box truck at an intersection in Baton Rouge, La., WWLTV reports.

"The governor was involved in a traffic accident this afternoon on the way home from his son's soccer game after a truck made an illegal u-turn in front of his vehicle," Jindal's office said in a statement, according to KSLA. "The governor did not sustain any injuries, and he is thankful for the work of the Louisiana State Police who keep him and his family safe every day."

The accident took place after a truck allegedly turned unexpectedly, sideswiping the vehicle that was transporting Jindal. Another police car assigned to Jindal's detail was involved in the crash, and the driver of that vehicle -- which reportedly swerved into a utility pole to avoid colliding with Jindal's SUV -- reportedly received treatment at a local hospital for minor injuries.

The driver of the box truck was reportedly cited for the traffic violation leading to the crash.

Despite the protection of police escorts, high-powered politicians do occasionally fall victim to the dangerous and unpredictable nature of the road. In 2007, then-New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine (D) suffered severe injuries after a state police vehicle in which he was travelling swerved to avoid an out-of-control driver. Corzine was treated for numerous broken bones and blood loss, but eventually recovered.
