How Mineral Makeup Can Give You A Flawless Complexion (VIDEO)

For starters, it offers the best of both beauty worlds.

Mineral makeup has gotten a bad rap over the years thanks to brands with not-so-sheer formulas and ingredients that cause breakouts. While we're not down with any of these adverse effects, the video above makes a strong case for why we should reconsider the powdery beauty products.

As NewBeauty editor Susan Yara points out, mineral makeup is the best of both worlds: It offers coverage and skin care with just a few strokes of the brush. The key is finding a high-quality brand. Yara raves about Glo Minerals because it contains a blend of antioxidants like vitamins A, C, E and green tea extract, as well as UV protection. (But that's no excuse to skip out on your sunscreen.)

Once you've found the right mineral makeup, you'll want to keep in mind these application tips. Start with primer to ensure that the product goes on smoothly. Next, spray on a facial mist to hydrate skin and help minerals penetrate. Use a round brush to apply foundation in a swirling motion as this will ensure instant, yet minimal coverage. Set makeup with another spritz of facial mist to finish.
