The "Girlfriend in a Coma" pilot hails from "Nurse Jackie" co-creator Liz Brixius and is based on Douglas Coupland’s novel of the same name.

Ricci previously starred in ABC's "Pan Am," which was canceled after a season. She went on to guest star on CBS's "The Good Wife" for an episode earlier in its current fourth season.

UPDATE: NBC has reportedly delayed production on "Girlfriend in a Coma" until June, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Since Ricci's exit, the network has encountered difficulties in recasting the lead role, and have decided, along with creator Brixtus and the production companies, to delay the process until after the conclusion of pilot season. This should allow a greater selection of actresses to read for the role, as the other networks will have narrowed down their pilot selections and greenlit the majority of their new pickups to series.
