George R.R. Martin is stepping in front of the cameras for "Game of Thrones," according to Deadline.

The "Game of Thrones" author will have a cameo in Season 3, but executive producer David Benioff would not confirm the role to Deadline. This isn't the first time Martin filmed a cameo. The author filmed one for the pilot and also explored having his head on a spike, but both those options were quashed earlier in the show's history.

Having producers and creators cameo in their own shows is nothing new
. In "Buffy the Vampire Slayer's" musical episode "Once More with Feeling," both Marti Noxon and David Fury, producers on the Joss Whedon series, had singing cameo parts. And Whedon has appeared in "Firefly" and "Angel."

Larry David regularly did voice work on "Seinfeld," "Lost" executive producer Carlton Cuse also did voice cameos on his series, and in the series finale of "Battlestar Galactica," executive producer Ron Moore appeared reading a magazine.

See some of the cameos below and click over to Deadline for more on Martin's "Game of Thrones" stint.

"Game of Thrones" premieres Sunday, March 31 at 9 p.m. ET on HBO.
