Powerball Jackpot Soars To $320 Million Prior To Drawing On Saturday, March 23

Powerball Jackpot Soars

The Powerball jackpot surged to $320 million after no one ticket matched all six numbers Wednesday night. The jackpot could grow even bigger prior to the next drawing on Saturday, March 23, the Associated Press reports.

According to ABC News, this is the twelfth consecutive drawing without a jackpot winner. However, three ticket holders won $1 million each after matching five numbers in Wednesday's drawing. The winning tickets were sold in Kentucky, Ohio and Florida.

The largest jackpot in the history of the multi-state lottery was worth $580 million, and was split between winners in Missouri and Arizona in November 2012. A Missouri couple who shared in the winnings made headlines earlier this year when they decided to invest their prize in their community, purchasing a new fire station and ball field, and earmarking $50,000 for a new sewage system.

Powerball is played in 42 states, Washington, D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands. In April 2013, California will begin selling Powerball lottery tickets, according to a press release by the state's lottery commission.
