Rap Music, Gun Violence: Rapper 50 Cent Refutes Connection Between The Two

A lot has been said about the connection between popular culture and gun violence, and while film has been brought up in the conversation, hip-hop music has taken a particular place in the debate.

During an interview for CBS News' "Sunday Morning," rapper 50 Cent spoke out about the comparison between the music genre and the disturbing trend of violence throughout the country.

The hip-hop artist turned actor and entrepreneur refuted claims of a connection between rap music and gun violence, saying his music was more a reflection of his experience rather than a glorification of assault weapons.

"If you were doing that and you weren't actually experiencing it, I would say you were glorifying it," he told Tracy Smith. "If you're drawing from something from your actual experience, isn't it art imitating life?"
