Angelina Jolie's Gold Band Sparks Speculations Of A Secret Wedding, Debunked On Her Trip To Africa

Angelina Jolie, goodwill ambassador for The U.N. Refugee Agency, visited the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda this past week to raise awareness for sexual violence in war zones.

With British Foreign Secretary William Hague in tow and on par with her surroundings, Jolie traded in her massive engagement ring for a more demure, gold band. The swap sparked speculation of a secret wedding to fiance Brad Pitt, which was then debunked when it became clear Jolie was only being respectful of her mission and position.

Jolie, 37, was spotted without her $500,000 emerald-cut diamond ring on a trip to a rescue camp in Congo, where she met with survivors of sexual violence. As part of their plan, Hague and Jolie intend to call on all governments to eradicate sexual violence as they meet with the different political leaders.

The famed mother of six not only traded in her extravagant ring for the occasion, but also opted for a more relaxed and simple outfit, and had her hair tied back. "It's often that we speak about the drama and the pain and the horrors of the Congo," Jolie said. "But it's also a wonderful place with extraordinary people."

The Oscar-winning actress pledged last year to devote more time to her humanitarian work, reports Us Weekly. She noted her desire to be part of the world "in a positive way" and said her children inspire her to help others.

As for the ring, the Daily Mail assesses it is in a safe somewhere, waiting for Jolie's return home to her family.
