Don't Hate Pete Campbell On 'Mad Men'; According To Vincent Kartheiser, You Should Hate Joan

Hate Joan, Not Pete

Vincent Kartheiser is well aware that his "Mad Men" character Pete Campbell is one of the most hated guys on TV, but that won't stop him from defending Pete's honor.

“People have this thing about Pete Campbell being unlikable and Joan Harris being honorable, and I just don’t get it," Kartheiser told TV Guide Magazine of Christina Hendricks' character, who slept with a Jaguar executive to land an account last season. "Joan’s been horrible to every woman who’s come into the office. But because she’s beautiful and fierce, people side with her.

“Everyone thinks [Pete's] a scumbag, but they still cash the checks from the clients he brings in," he continued. "He’s the only one with the stomach to see how the sausage is made. Hey, Sterling, Cooper, Draper and Joan -- you’re welcome!”

Known for being the most punchable character on "Mad Men" -- the late Lane Pryce (Jared Harris) famously kicked the crap out of him in Season 5 -- Kartheiser himself is no stranger to a bloody nose here and there.

"I’ve been punched in the face before. You know, that’s life ... I got beat up in Vancouver once by two dudes, and they were, like, kicking me," he told Vulture. "I was laying on the ground getting my ass whooped and I never really had much happen. I guess a little soreness the next day."

Season 6 of "Mad Men" premieres on Sun, April 7 at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
