TACOMA, Wash. (AP) — A 67-year-old man accused of firing shots at homes in his northeast Tacoma neighborhood was arrested Tuesday night after an hours-long standoff with SWAT officers, authorities said.

No one were injured in the gunfire late Tuesday afternoon.

Mike McBee surrendered after being assured his two dogs would be cared for, Pierce County sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer said.

"He had his own two dogs in there and a neighbor's dog he kidnapped. That dog's back and OK," Troyer said.

Troyer said McBee would be booked into jail on "multiple charges yet to be determined."

Authorities were not sure what led to the gunfire. Deputies found a car and a house with bullet holes but were not sure how many rounds were fired.

Residents who dialed 911 described a man walking through the neighborhood, shooting at homes.

"We're not sure what set him off," Troyer said. "We know he has some mental health issues." Officers planned to talk to neighbors "to see if there was a neighborhood beef."

The man retreated to his own home as SWAT officers arrived, but talked by phone to sheriff's negotiators and friends they brought in. He also withstood repeated gas canisters lobbed into the house in an effort to drive him out.

Troyer said he didn't know what kind of weapons the man had. The sheriff's office planned to return to the house Wednesday with a search warrant.
