Nicki Minaj Pegs Papa Peachez As Her Favorite Gay 'American Idol' Contestant

Nicki Minaj Reveals Her Favorite Gay Contestant On 'American Idol'

Eccentric "Starships" rapper Nicki Minaj jumped on a conference call with reporters on March 25, as Us Weekly notes, to talk about her current run on Fox's "American Idol."

During the call the newly-crowned reality TV judge discussed her favorite gay "Idol" contestant, being a polarizing figure on the show, her connection to the contestants and more.

When asked if the "Pink Friday" rapper had a gay contestant from the show she was especially fond of, she called out Papa Peachez. She said that the Mississippi-native was a "superstar," but that he wasn't aware of it.

"I definitely think Papa Peachez was probably the most dear to my heart, only because I felt that he was such a superstar. But I don’t think he really knew that yet. Whenever I meet someone where I feel like they don’t really know their own worth, it kind of bothers me. I thought he was so exciting. I wanted to see him perform his original music every week. Unfortunately, he got overshadowed by all the other big singers," she said.

The "big black woman trapped in a little boy's body," as Papa has referred to himself, loves Minaj and her quirkiness. During his audition for season 12, Minaj pleaded with Randy Jackson to break the tie and send Peachez to Hollywood. Jackson changed his initial vote of "No" to "Yes," but unfortunately, the soulful openly-gay singer was cut from the competition after his rendition of Lady Gaga's "You and I" in early February.
