Obama: Gay Marriage Is 'Consistent With Our Constitution'

On Wednesday, President Barack Obama appeared on Spanish-language network Telemundo, where he discussed the current hot-button issue of gay marriage, among other topics.

"Not only is it right and fair, but also consistent with our Constitution to recognize same-sex couples," Obama said.

"It doesn't mean that everyone has to agree from a religious standpoint," but "everyone is supposed to be equal before the law," added the president, who himself came out in support of gay marriage in May 2012, during a televised interview with ABC News.

Obama also spoke with Telemundo about a number of other topics, including immigration reform, during his interview.

This week, the Supreme Court heard oral arguments in two same-sex marriage cases. The first dealt with Proposition 8, California's gay marriage ban. The second case dealt with the federal Defense of Marriage Act.
