THE WEEK IN ARTS & CULTURE

Greetings readers! This week brought artists and subjects of all ages, from elderly models acting out traditional folklore to a pint-sized 6-year-old drummer.

Do you feel your age? In his wistful series "Mirrors," Dallas-based photographer Tom Hussey captures the discrepancy between how old we look and how young we feel with sharp tenderness.

The photographer arrived upon the concept for his bittersweet series after a conversation with an 80-year-old World War II veteran who couldn't believe how quickly time had passed. "He commented that he didn’t understand how he could be 80 years old as he felt he was still a young man. He just didn’t feel it was possible he could be 80 years old," Hussey told the American Society of Media Photographers. See more here.

We also celebrated the 40th anniversary of Led Zeppelin's pivotal album, "Houses of the Holy." Led Heads, this is your permission to crank it up to 11.

The record has gone down in history as one of Rolling Stone's 500 greatest albums of all time (along with "Led Zeppelin," "Led Zeppelin II," "Led Zeppelin IV," and "Physical Graffiti"). Read more here.

15 Things You Might Not Know About Jean-Michel Basquiat

Jean-Michel Basquiat has been attracting 3,000 visitors a day to his mega-blockbuster exhibition at the Gagosian Gallery in New York City. Now the graffiti art star from the 1980s is the subject of yet another tantalizing story, this time one that involves an ex-girlfriend, a treasure trove of unseen works and a possible book deal.

According to ARTINFO, Basquiat's former fling, a biologist by the name of Alexis Adler, has enlisted a team of art critics and assistants to help her catalogue a collection of unseen works previously housed in her NYC apartment. Read more here.

Elderly Fairy Tales

Finnish artist Riitta Ikonen and Norwegian photographer Karoline Hjorth decided to explore what happens when their favorite mythical characters retire.

The result, the intriguing series titled, "Eyes As Big As Plates," features elderly subjects enveloped in organic, scavenged material, creating a universal setting for the ethereal images. Read more here.

Meet Avery Molek, a 6-year-old drummer who's currently experiencing his 15 minutes of YouTube fame. In a video making the rounds online this week, the tiny drummer is shown shredding his way through Van Halen's "Hot For Teacher," barely missing a beat as he plays the classic song like a pro.

Molek has been playing the drums since he was four years old and in just two years he's played over 15 shows spanning four different states, wowing crowds with his prodigious love of Kiss and other hard rock bands.

Well, that was our week. How was yours?

Have a great weekend and a happy Easter!
