Feel that rumbling?

Quick! Run to the nearest doorway or huddle underneath that sturdy desk!

Can you hear the building, where you're sitting at your desk ten stories high, begin to crumble?

Well, you shouldn't. There is no earthquake ravaging the White House and the rest of D.C., but that's not what the Turkish news site National Turk told its readers in an April Fool's Joke Monday, according to DCist.

In its effort to have a little fun on April Fool's Day, National Turk wrote that a magnitude 8.7 earthquake had hit the District:

Washington was an earthquake magnitude 8.7 earthquake, the number of casualties is unknown, flames rise from the White House, President Obama was taken to NORAD.

The quake hit about 60 miles (100 km) southwest of Atlantic Ocean and at a depth of about six miles (10km) according to the US Geological Survey.Local time 03.45

“Sea level readings indicate a tsunami was generated,” the US center said in a statement. “It may have been destructive along coasts near the earthquake epicenter.”

Winston Reckhert, a geophysicist from the Atlantic Ocean Warning Centre said: “We have seen a small tsunami at Halifax Nova Scotia 100 miles south of the epicentre.

“The tsunami amplitude was 13cm which suggests there may be troublesome waves in the immediate area of the quake, but beyond that there is no hazard so we do not have a tsunami warning for anywhere else in the Atlantic”.

Emergency crews were alerted and the United States Army, Hospitals full of wounded people.

After a fire began in the White House, President Obama and his family were taken to NORAD.

This is a April Fool thank you for your understanding!

As DCist notes, the picture used for the story on the National Turk website was taken from the upcoming film "White House Down," a thriller about a paramilitary group that takes over the White House.

The summer 2011 earthquake, the most recent earthquake to shake D.C., measured 5.8 on the Richter scale. It is still a vivid memory for those who work in area. Many evacuated their office buildings after hearing the roar and feeling the rumble of the quake, but little damage was seen in the area.
