Poll: Republicans' Worst Trait Is Being 'Inflexible,' 'Unwilling To Compromise'

Republicans' Worst Trait Revealed In Poll

Americans' most common complaint about the Republican Party is that it's "too inflexible" and "unwilling to compromise," according to a Gallup poll released Monday.

Asked to name what they specifically liked and disliked about the major political parties, 21 percent of those polled said the GOP was too rigid. Members of the Republican rank-and-file were even more likely to voice that complaint: 26 percent of the Republicans polled said their own party was inflexible.

The Democratic Party took the most heat over its economic policy, with 14 percent saying that it spent too much or was increasing the budget deficit.

Democrats, however, were less likely to criticize their own party. About half didn't name anything they disliked about their party, compared to just one-third of Republicans who took a pass.

The Republican Party received the greatest praise for holding conservative views and taking a better approach to fiscal management, while the Democratic Party's top quality was seen as its concern for the middle and working classes.

The Gallup poll surveyed 1,020 adults by phone on March 20 and 21.
