'The New Normal' Finale: Bryan And David Prepare For 'The Big Day'

Bryan & David's 'Big Day'

"The New Normal" is staging an hourlong season finale on Tuesday, April 2 (9 p.m. ET on NBC), which sees Bryan (Andrew Rannells) and David (Justin Bartha) preparing for both their impending wedding and the birth of their son -- one of which requires an officiant and one of which requires a name.

In HuffPost TV's exclusive clip above, we see the happy couple struggling with the logistics of wedding planning, adhering to tradition and the overbearing presence of Bryan's mother Colleen (guest star Mary Kay Place). Will they be able to have their big day their way?

The "New Normal" finale's subject matter is particularly timely given the Supreme Court's current examination of the constitutionality of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and Prop 8. On April 1, a gay father and husband's touching open letter to the Supreme Court went viral, further illustrating how relevant "The New Normal's" storylines are to the lives and struggles of LGBT families.

The aforemetioned father, Jack Montgomery, wrote, "I am not naive enough to think that any verdict of your court will change the opinions or hearts of the individuals we encounter on a daily basis. I accept that the stares our family receives walking down the street on a daily basis elicits both judgment and inspiration. What I do not accept is that the United States of America is willing to devalue my childrens’ family more than others and have a separate grouping of laws and benefits."

"The New Normal" finale airs Tuesday, April 2 at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.
