Coast Guard Rescues Man From Detroit River

(DETROIT) -- The Coast Guard rescued a man found swimming in the Detroit River on Monday.

According to a report from the Detroit Free Press, the swimmer, between 40 and 50 years old, was spotted in the water near Mt. Elliott Park on Monday afternoon. He was fully dressed, wearing pants, shirt, and shoes.

The crowd on the shore called for help, and the rescue operation quickly became an emergency situation when the Coast Guard lost sight of the man as he struggled in the 37 degree water.

The Coast Guard was able to bring the man to shore, and transported him to a local hospital.

Officials don’t know why he decided to go for a swim in the frigid river.
