BlackBerry 'Takeover' Ad Hijacks iPhone, Android Screens, Showcases New OS (PHOTOS)

LOOK: BlackBerry 'Takes Over' Your iPhone, Android

BlackBerry is taking over your iPhone. Well, at least its ads are.

In the company's latest attempt to woo iPhone and Android users away from their mobile devices, BlackBerry unveiled a new "takeover" ad, which runs through web browsers on its competitors' phones.

But this isn't a hostile takeover. BlackBerry's latest ad requires users to navigate to a specific website (blackberry.com/glimpse) to take part in the interactive experience.

Users follow a green dot through the tour of the BlackBerry 10 operating system, swiping and pressing to move from feature to feature.

This mobile-only ad is one of several in BlackBerry's "real-time marketing" plan, which will tout the best aspects of the mobile company's latest operating system and its shiny new BlackBerry Z10 and BlackBerry Q10 smartphones. Similar "takeover" ads for desktop browsers were first launched on The Guardian's website and are set to flood the screens of New York Times readers.

As blog MobileBloom notes, these "[s]o called 'takeovers' are designed to swarm a user’s display with ads. The New York Times takeover, for example, will see Blackberry ads take over the newspaper’s Facebook page, Twitter feed and website as well."
