Off with their bonnets! "Breaking Amish" cast members Abe, Rebecca, Kate, Sabrina and Jeremiah are making a fresh start for themselves in Sarasota, Florida.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, TLC has ordered a "Breaking Amish" spinoff series titled "Brave New World" centering on the five original cast members mentioned above moving to a large ex-Amish community in Sarasota, Florida.
"Breaking Amish" was renewed for a sophomore season in February 2013 and "Brave New World" will now serve as the show's Season 2. As TLC previously stated, the new season of "Breaking Amish" will follow Abe, Rebecca, Kate, Sabrina and Jeremiah, who expect to make "a fresh start in Florida, but instead find more culture shock, unexpected enemies, and surprises from family members with their own agendas." It also promises more "love triangles, dramatic moments between the roommates, [and] financial woes."
“The 'Breaking Amish' franchise is a remarkable look at individuals facing a critical crossroads in their lives: whether to pursue the dreams they’ve always had or stay in the only life they’ve ever known," TLC GM Amy Winter said via THR. "Both iterations of the series follow a group of young men and women on their own journeys of self-discovery, complex relationships and understanding the world around them."
Although "Breaking Amish" has been one of TLC's most successful franchises ever, rumors began floating around in September that the series was fake.
"Our Amish and Mennonite producers that we hired introduced us to Amish and Mennonite men and women who were already determined to leave," the "Breaking Amish" production company Hot Snakes Media told Variety in defense of the accusations. "They had already made the decision to go out and see the world, with or without us. They courageously allowed us to follow them on this journey."
The Huffington Post's request for confirmation from TLC was not immediately returned.
"Breaking Amish: A Brave New World" will premiere on Sun., May 12 at 10 p.m. ET on TLC.
