'Happy Endings': USA Considers Saving Comedy If ABC Doesn't Renew For Season 4 (REPORT)

Could USA Give 'Happy Endings' A Happy Ending?

Potentially ah-mah-zing news for "Happy Endings"; USA is reportedly considering picking up the struggling comedy should ABC decline to renew it for Season 4, according to Deadline.

The cable network has reportedly expressed interest in the cult favorite, which they would be looking to pair with their syndicated repeats of "Modern Family" in the fall. A spokesperson for USA had no comment on the "Happy Endings" speculation, and ABC has yet to make an announcement about their plans for the David Caspe series.

Production company Sony TV is reportedly behind the Hail Mary move, having shepherded many of its underrated shows -- including CBS' "Rules of Engagement" and "Unforgettable," and Lifetime's "Drop Dead Diva" -- into unexpected renewal deals.

Despite the feeling from both fans and the show's cast that ABC hasn't been supportive enough of the quirky comedy, network president Paul Lee has arguably shown patience with the low-rated series, trying a dizzying array of timeslots to try and capture a larger audience for the series. The show currently airs double-bills on Fridays, while its former timeslot companion, "Don't Trust The B---- In Apt 23" was canceled earlier this year.

To promote its return, ABC released a "Save Happy Endings" promo, which rubbed a few viewers (and star Adam Pally) the wrong way. Sadly, despite the controversial trailer's rallying cry to fans, "Happy Endings" was down in the ratings for its Friday debut, garnering only 3 million viewers and a 0.9 in the demo, which make an ABC renewal seem unlikely.

Still, off-broadcast pickups usually work in cult shows' favor -- TBS recently saved another of ABC's lesser-watched comedies, "Cougar Town," which has now been renewed for a fifth season.

Do you think that USA should save "Happy Endings"?

"Happy Endings" airs Fridays at 8 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
