Conservative media columnist Tim Graham had quite the response to MSNBC announcing its newest host, Karen Finney.

Finney, a Democratic consultant, has been a contributor and political analyst with the network since 2009. She will host the 4-5:00 p.m. hour on Saturday and Sundays, serving as the lead-in to Ed Schultz's new weekend program.

Among multiple biographical details, the MSNBC press release included that Finney "was the first African American spokeswoman for the Democratic National Committee" and "a member of the National Association of Black Journalists."

Graham, of Media Research Center fame, tweeted soon after MSNBC made the announcement.

MSNBC touting Karen Finney as another African-American host. Would the average viewer be able to guess that? Or is Boehner a shade more tan?

The Tampa Bay Times' Eric Deggans, who frequently writes about media and race, asked Graham if he thought diversity only counted if "the host looks definitively like a non-white person." Graham responded:

No, it counts. Didn't mean to say MSNBC doesn't get credit for diversity. Just saying it's not so self-evident.
