Accused Thief Jumps Into Water To Escape, But Can't Swim: Cops

An accused thief allegedly tried to make his escape swimming to freedom across a canal in Boca Raton, FL.

He might have gotten away if only he could swim.

Tyler Korman, 24, allegedly tried to steal a woman's purse on Tuesday evening, but failed at that, according to the Sun-Sentinel.

Then he allegedly tried to take the baby stroller, but when the woman's 12-year-old daughter wouldn't let go of it, he grabbed the iPhone sitting on top of it instead.

Police showed up and Korman jumped into the water in hopes of making a clean getaway, cops said. However, the suspect was not a good swimmer and soon got out and surrendered, BocaNewsNow.com reported.

Korman was booked into Palm Beach County Jail on Monday and faces charges of robbery by sudden snatching, larceny and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He's not the only alleged thief whose plan for a daring water escape was all wet.

Last September, Phillip Beach of Southbrook, Texas, attempted to steal a sailboat, but the plan hit rocky waters when he jumped in the water and tried to swim away with the boat in tow.
