It was five years ago today that Jay-Z put a ring on it.

On April 4, 2008, the "Watch the Throne" rapper and longtime love Beyonce wed in an intimate ceremony, surrounded by family and close pals such as Gwyneth Paltrow and Bey's fellow Destiny's Child members Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams.

Since then, the hip-hop power couple went on to become proud parents, giving birth to baby Blue Ivy in January 2012. As of late, they can be seen doting on their adorable daughter, mingling with high-profile friends like the Obamas and generally conquering the world. (They even topped Forbes' "Highest Paid Celebrity Couples" list in 2012.)

Beyonce opened up about why their relationship works in a 2011 interview with Harper's Bazaar. "We have been together since I was 20 years old," she said. "We took our time and developed an unbreakable friendship before we got married. I admire his ability to inspire others. To me, Jay represents the American dream. Jay's music has helped define our generation. All that he has overcome and worked to achieve gives millions hope that they can become whatever they want to be. I respect him so much; he is a great man and a great artist."

Happy anniversary, Bey and Jay!
