1950s Jiffy-Way Egg Scale

Professional appraiser Helaine Fendelman identifies and evaluates your collectibles and antiques.

WHAT IS IT?

With the growing interest in backyard chicken farming, related accessories continue to gain momentum on the vintage scene. And your particular find — made from sheet steel by Jiffy-Way Inc. of Owatonna, Minnesota — remains in great shape. Patented in 1940, the scale functions like so: Place an egg atop the nickel-plated cradling arm, and the machine reveals not just the specimen's weight in ounces, but also its grade, from small to extra large. Originally sold for around $2, your graphic tool currently commands a much heftier sum.

What's It Worth: $100
