Ryan Gosling's Bank Robbery Scenes In 'The Place Beyond The Pines' Were Filmed With Real Customers

Ryan Gosling plays a motorcycle stuntman turned bank robber in "The Place Beyond The Pines," and in a new interview, the actor revealed it's a profession he always wanted to attempt.

“I’ve been thinking about a bank robbery my whole life, and I finally got to do it," the 32-year-old told the Telegraph. Gosling's bank robbery fantasy came as close to a reality as possible -- without the actor actually getting arrested, of course -- but it didn't quite live up to his fantasy.

“I’m there with the gun and I look down and people are just smiling,” he says of the first robbery scene they filmed. As Gosling explained, director Derek Cianfrance arranged to shoot the scene in one take using the bank's real customers and employees. “They were just enjoying the show and I think I spotted someone filming me on their camera phone as I robbed the place."

"The Place Beyond The Pines" spans more than 15 years and plays out three interconnected storylines, one of which follows both Gosling's and co-star Bradley Cooper's rebellious teenage sons. In the same interview, Gosling revealed that he was quite the troublemaker in his youth, telling the Telegraph he now "feels bad for my mother, because it never stopped."

Gosling confessed that as a child he put his pet cat in the dryer, and once even set the house on fire -- claiming that his mother had to give up her job take care of him:

“I felt like I was going crazy as a kid. I wanted to be man, get a job," he explained.

It's quite the confession, but it's also possible that Gosling had grown out of his self-professed craziness by the time he landed a gig on "The All New Mickey Mouse Club," since he seemed anything but unruly in one of his very first TV interviews at the age of 12.
