We know Ellen DeGeneres has a passion for comedy, dancing and animals. But we didn't realize she was such a design lover.
In the May issue of Elle Decor, we get a peek inside DeGeneres and wife Portia De Rossi's California ranch home, which DeGeneres decorated with designers Jay Holman and Cliff Fong. And we see just how home-savvy this comedian really is.
The incredible 26-acre property has an overall rustic feel thanks to the antique furniture and industrial accessories. But because the land is divided into eight cabins, each has a different look that doesn't affect the mood of the others. For example, in "Number 8," the feeling is more contemporary with white linens and a granite accents, while "Number 6" is described as "very Belgium."
We're particularly fond of what the couple calls the "romantic barn," where DeGeneres' DIY skills really shine. She installed three early 20th century lamps for de Rossi, and even created the artwork for the space. “I thought it might take Ellen five years to finish the project and she did it in one. It was shocking,” de Rossi told Elle Decor.
And although DeGeneres admits to getting bored easily when it comes to homes, she doesn't think this place will go on the market anytime soon. "If I find something else and can see having a new project, I'm open to that," she told the magazine. "But I'd have to fight Portia, because this is her dream property. This we may just hold on to."
