Stanley Moore Cook County Commissioner: William Beavers' Replacement Appointed Despite Ethics Fine

Stanley Moore Appointed To County Board Despite Ethics Fine

Cook County's Democratic leaders have spoken, and their choice for the replacement of disgraced ex-county commissioner William Beavers is a candidate who himself was the subject of an ethics probe.

Stanley Moore, formerly deputy director of the Illinois Department of Transportation, was appointed Thursday to the Cook County Board, DNAinfo Chicago reports.

According to CBS Chicago, the county's Democratic committeemen on Thursday heard from 12 candidates -- among them, former Cook County Board President Todd Stroger -- who hoped to be the successor of Beavers, who was found guilty of tax fraud and booted from the board last month.

Moore's appointment came despite the fact that he was sanctioned for allegedly campaigning for a public office while on the clock at IDOT. Moore was fired from his IDOT post in April of 2009, just a month prior to the ethics complaint being filed.

The state's Executive Ethics Commission fined Moore $3,000, which he reportedly paid off earlier this week.
